Being refferred to an RE

Well. My Dr called back. Results were negative....... Im so confused. I asked her why is that for 2 months now my pregnancy tests show up positive on the same dpo and she always tells me my blood tests are negative.... She said its either one of two things....

1.) Chemical pregnancy - but its highly doubtful because the pregnancy tests only lasted 2 days, most chemical pregnancies last about a week before it fades.

2.) With having PCOS and raised LH, its possible that some of the pregnancy tests were detecting raging LH instead of HCG since their chemical make up is so similar.

Either one makes sense to me. All of my OPKs have been really dark which totally confused me. That would also be why the line never got any darker....

She told me she doesnt want to try Clomid again. She just wants me to go to RE (who is actually her husband) and she said he could probably do more for me than she could. She is restrained as an ob/gyn to only go so far with treatments when he will have many more options. I called him and set an appt for Oct 5th. I guess its just a consultation. My friend who is also TTC with unknown infertility (who also saw all of my positives) sees this RE as well.... She said since I have been diagnosed with Mennorhgia my HSG will be covered by insurance. So I was really excited to hear that. I'm wondering what else will happen there, as Ive never been to an RE.... Anyways. Ive been crying all day long and I have swollen eyes and not much energy anymore.... Theres the update.

  1. Chelsea,
I am so sorry this has happened. I know the roller coaster of getting BFPs and then BFNs is maddening and the worst kind of psychological/emotional torture us TTC women can go through. :(

I'm glad you are seeking out a RE and getting this issue looked into more. I know that HPTs and OPKs detect similar, but different hormones. I didn't know it was possible for an HPT to detect LH. My education came from this website http://www.peeonastick.com/opkhpt.html . I was referred to this site by a fellow Cyster after I attempted to (unsuccessfully) use an OPK as HPT last spring. It provides an easy to understand explanation. Obviously, this website should not trump your doctor, but it is something to keep in mind. I am interested to hear what she thinks. If it's possible that HPTs can pick up LH sometimes, maybe my BFP in May wasn't a real BFP (BFP one day, BFN the next...)

KUP with what you learn, and good luck!

  2. To clarify more, I am VERY familiar with peeonastick.com LOL!!! and I told my Dr I had never heard of this as Ive done lots of my own researching since 2003 when I was diagnosed. Never had I heard of it. And she went on to explain that it happens more with PCOS women because we have extreme amounts of LH when put on Clomid in addition to our out of whack body already. In a PCOS woman the LH can surge every few days to every few weeks, to not at all. We are so unpredictable. So only a cheap test with EXTREME amounts of LH would show positive. Which makes since in my case because in my LP I had 4 days of positive OPKs. So Im not saying she was right about this, Im saying she could be. I had every pregnancy symptom I could imagine. And actually still do.... LOL.... I do believe I was pregnant and baby didnt stick leading to a chemical pregnancy and she said that it was possible too. I am so worn out from it all tho. Thanks for the encouragement!
